We have opportunities for volunteers to help out in eye clinics at Lincoln County Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, The New Johnston Hospital in Spalding, Grantham General Hospital and the hospital in Stamford.
Our volunteers are not involved clinically but give support and information to people who are attending a consultation at the hospital. These people are very often attending for the very first time and will be confused, unsure and maybe even a little frightened of what is going on with them. Doctors and nurses provide excellent clinical care but have little time left to ensure that people have sufficient information of what to do next or what care and support is available to them as a result of their sight loss. Our volunteers are trained to give information that will enable people to access other services and organisations for more support and to reassure them that they are not alone with their sight loss.
This is a very rewarding and gratifying activity for volunteers and we provide suitable training and support for them.
