Become a Befriender

Home Visiting is a voluntary-visitor befriending service that makes such a vital difference to so many of our service users!

Many of our service users have found themselves feeling isolated and lonely due to their visual impairment and their location, lack of family etc. By donating just a couple of hours of their time here and there, a volunteer could provide an isolated, visually impaired person with the long-overdue company they need.

All our service users have varying degrees of sight-loss, ranging from visually impaired to completely blind; as a result of this, depending on who the volunteer visits, they may be asked to help with simple tasks such as reading the news, reading the mail, writing a letter, making a cup of tea etc. Whether or not help for these simple tasks is asked for, all our service users would just love to have someone give them the opportunity of a couple of hours, regularly or not, to talk to a friendly face.

Please note that no personal care (washing, dressing, medication etc) is included within this voluntary role.

If you have a spare couple of hours either on a regular basis or just now and then, and would like to keep a visually impaired person company, please contact Eve on 01476 592775 or via email at EveF@blind-society.com
